Michigan Interlock was one of the approved vendors for ignition interlock devices in Michigan until March 8, 2018. According to the report, Secretary of State Johnson has determined the device manufactured by Alcohol Detection Systems (ADS) fails to require necessary start-up test and periodic retest as required under Michigan Law. Secretary of State Johnson also cited reporting issues with the company as a reason for the suspension of Michigan Interlock’s ability to provide ignition interlock devices in the State of Michigan
There are approximately 1,500 people using Michigan Interlock as their ignition interlock provider. All of these individuals are required to switch providers ASAP. There is no cost for the removal of the ADS or Michigan Interlock devices by any of the other five approved interlock vendors. There are some reports that Michigan Interlock is directing all of their clients to one particular provider. Individuals should be wary of advice they are getting from a company that has lost the ability to provide ignition interlock devices in Michigan. You should check to see if any of the other providers have had their privileges suspended by the Michigan Secretary of State before deciding on which vendor to use. Make sure the new vendor has locations near you and has openings to handle the removal and installation of the ignition interlock devices.
For years, I have recommended Nationwide Interlock (https://www.nationwideinterlock.com/) to my clients. Their ignition interlock devices, customer service, rates, and reports have exceptional.
